Leaf, seed and root are used for different purposes. Dried ripe fruit (seed) is mainly used for medicinal purposes. The ordour and taste of seed are aromatic. The plant has antifungal, antihypertensive, hypolipidemic, hepatoprotective, diuretic, and anticancer properties. It is primarily used in hepatic, spleen, kidney and brain disorders, body pain, and sleep disturbances. The seed is used as blood purifier and to reduce degeneration of body joints. Seed oil has insecticidal and repellent properties against mosquito- a vector of dengue hemorrhage fever. Celery seeds can be used as flavoring or spice, either as whole seeds or ground and mixed with salt, called celery salt. The plant is also used as vegetable.
